略歴

京都大学工学部工業化学科卒業、京都大学大学院工学研究科工業化学専攻修士課程修了、1981年（昭和56年）東京大学大学院工学系研究科反応化学専攻博士課程修了。工学博士。1981年学位取得後ただちに米国ピッツバーグ大学理学部化学科にて博士研究員。帰国後、1985年理化学研究所レーザー科学研究グループ研究員、1990年岡崎国立共同研究機構・分子科学研究所助教授、1997年総合研究大学院大学・教育交流センター教授就任と同時に分子科学研究所電子構造研究系教授を併任。

1998年　総合研究大学院大学・先導科学研究科・光科学専攻教授
1999年‐2001年3月　光科学専攻長。
2001年‐2005年　先導科学研究科長
2002年7月‐8月　Fellow of Hanse Wissenschaftkolleg (Hanse Institute for Advanced Studies, Germany)
2003年４月　岡崎国立共同研究機構・分子科学研究所・教授を併任
2004年４月　自然科学研究機構・分子科学研究所・教授、分子制御レーザー開発研究センター長、総合研究大学院大学先導科学研究科教授併任。
